Rhode Island State Pre-K Lottery is now open! 

The Rhode Island State Pre-K Lottery is now open, this state-funded program offers high-quality early childhood education for 4-year-old children. Families can apply for a spot in a participating RI Pre-K classroom through an annual lottery system.

Key Points: 

  • Children must be 4 years old by September 1 of the school year. 
  • The program is open to all Rhode Island residents within the town they reside in.
  • The lottery is not first-come, first-served — all applications submitted during the enrollment window are given equal consideration. 
  • If selected, families will be notified after July 4th and must accept their placement by the deadline. 

How to Apply:

  • Visit the official RI Pre-K Lottery page: https://ripreklottery.ride.ri.gov/
  • Johnston Public Schools in listed as Early Childhood Center 
  • You will need an active email address and working phone number
  • Complete the online application during the open lottery window. Applications to the statewide lottery are accepted through 11:59 PM on June 22, 2026.  The lottery will run following the General Assembly passage of the state budget
  • Watch for emails or mail confirming your child’s placement or waitlist status in July
